What the State Comptroller found

The Office of the State Comptroller issued a report on Irvington's settlement spending on 07/08/2025. It found that the Township's own accounting showed 632,502.16 spent on the 2023 and 2024 Opioid Awareness Day concerts, with no evidence-based or evidence-informed justification. It found that 368,500.00 of that went to businesses owned or controlled by a Township employee or his immediate family. Its expense table lists musical artists, billboards, t-shirts, popcorn, cotton candy and shaved ice equipment, generators and VIP trailer rentals. It lists 50 Narcan kits as a donation. It found the Township asked for donated Narcan for the 2024 concert without using any of its opioid funds.

The Township's reports certify 613,177.80 for FY2023 and FY2024. The Comptroller reported that the Township's chief financial officer said the entire amount related to the two concerts. The reports run on the State's fiscal year and the Comptroller's table runs by event, so the two totals cover different windows.
