Frequently asked questions

Who has to report opioid settlement spending in New Jersey?

Every county and municipality that receives a direct allocation files an annual report with the Department of Human Services. The report names each program, what it paid and what is left on hand. How we check a report

Can opioid settlement money be spent on police cars or license plate readers?

No. Exhibit E of the national settlement lists the approved uses: treatment, recovery, prevention, harm reduction and related supports. Vehicles and surveillance hardware are not among the uses it lists, and state law bars using the funds to replace money a jurisdiction would otherwise have spent. The approved uses

What does a grade mean here?

A grade comes from a published rubric applied by code, with no analyst discretion. Reporting integrity carries half the weight, spending conformity carries forty percent, and records behaviour carries ten. A jurisdiction that has not produced a complete ledger gets a status badge instead of a letter. The rubric

What happens if a jurisdiction says a figure is wrong?

It can send the record that shows a different figure. The figure changes only if the record supports it, and a verified correction regrades that jurisdiction.Corrections policy
